Luis received Sunland’s ‘Above and Beyond’ Safety Award on April 25th, 2018. Luis rose to the occasion occasion on a project in the City of Maricopa. While previewing a seal coat job in a Maricopa neighborhood, Luis noticed a house that was on fire. He parked his truck and ran to the front door and started banging on it to see if anyone was inside. A man, who was already aware of the fire, answered the door while trying to escort an elderly woman outside. Luis helped them both to safety and checked to make sure no one else was inside. He got the two people a couple bottles of water and stayed with them until the fire department showed up.
