Formula 1 Miami Circuit
Miami, Florida
Formula 1 Miami Circuit (Formula 1) located in Miami, Florida, includes a 3.4-mile long track with an average width of 43 feet; it features 19 corners, three straightaways, and three Drag Reduction System (DRS) zones. Materials for this project included specially formulated asphalt, designed by Sunland for this particular track to maximize traction and withstand the shear force of the racecar tires. The paving for this project was very technical in every aspect; it required custom Granite Rock with the specified fractured faces outsourced from Tennessee to ensure the top-quality raceways necessary for this track. The Formula 1 project required milling to a depth of 2 inches and paving the specialized asphalt mix back at 2 inches. Sunland’s paving process for this project was unique due to a technique called echelon paving. This technique ensures the optimal smoothness and compaction required for this track. The 3D echelon paving involved three pavers, three material transfer vehicles, 20 rollers, 50 dump trucks, and a crew of 47 Sunland employees and owners running in sync daily. The Formula 1 Circuit is the highest level of milling and paving that a company can do regarding tight specifications.
